Meet the Maker: Mei Designs

Meet this week's maker, Carolina from Mei Designs!

Mom to two beautiful kids, 'Mei' is her daughter's middle name, which means 'beautiful' in Chinese. Using her journey and own experiences as inspiration when creating designs, Carolina's pieces are all things funny, sparkly and a little inappropriate.

Her business has grown immensely over the last couple of years, which she credits to truly believing in herself, as well as surrounding herself with like-minded people that hype her up, even when she loses her drive, and of course, her incredible and supportive followers. On top of that, she also credits Markets Ontario for helping her grow, which has been amazing for us to watch happen over the years!

Carry on reading to learn more about Mei Designs!

What kind of products do you sell?
I sell a wide range of different drinkware and accessories.

How did you get started?
I started my business while on mat leave with my son in 2014, selling vinyl items to friends and family that I made with my Cricut. It wasn't until my separation in 2019 and getting fired that same year in October, that I really started to push my business.

Why are you a maker?
I wanted to be my own boss, and be able to spend more time with my kids.

What inspires you?
Seeing successful women who have been told they wouldn't make it and end up building an empire are ultimately who inspire me.

What is your favourite product that you sell?
Any of my mugs from The Sweary Collection.

What is your favourite product that another maker sells?
I love the Naked Scrubs by Bath Bomb Chick.

What is your most popular product?
The mugs from my favourite collection...The Sweary Collection!

What's one fun fact that someone might not know about you?
I'm super awkward, especially when people say how they like my items or that I inspire them.
